Do you have high-functioning depression?

Last week, I was talking/venting to my husband about feeling restless and just a little "off" even though I was having a pretty positive week.
And my solution was to book a 2 week vacation while simultaneously feeling guilty and anxious about taking so much time off work.
His response: You should listen to the new Rich Roll podcast and tell me what you think.
I listened to Dr. Judith Joseph and her work with high-functioning depression and although I don't have all the symptoms, I could absolutely relate to her stories of being a high-achiever but not allowing myself to feel the joy before moving on to the next project.
I just keep doing. I keep achieving. While I sometimes experience fatigue, poor concentration, restlessness, poor sleep... I don't usually experience a lack of functioning or significant distress.
What was immensely validating was her solutions to high-functioning depression... all things we offer at ming+ming!
Practicing self-validation (ming+ming step 1: Negative Reel)
Living your core values (ming+ming step 2: Ego vs. Identity)
Visualizing your goals (ming+ming step 3: Pie in the Sky)
Those 3 things plus a consistent meditation/mindfulness practice and a community to vent to is the solution.
Hate to admit it but since Spring Break, I've been less consistant with my daily meditations. This podcast has given me deeper understanding of this pattern so I can prioritize my mindfulness practice and shift my perspective to help soften the symptoms of high-functioning depression.
Do you have symptoms of high-functioning depression sometimes? Leave a note in the comments and let me know.
With love,
Ming-Wai
