Outside Indian Springs Resort in Calistoga after our mud bath!

Have you tried a mud bath?

It was our first time and overall, the mud bath at Indian Springs Resort in Calistoga was really nice! It was more like a detox rather than a relaxing soak. This was our experience...

First of all, lying down in a tub covered with warm mud is grounding on a whole other level. We were half floating and half buried in the mud.

Ming-Wai really enjoyed the sensation and thought it was a wonderful invitation to meditate. Ming-Cee thought it was good for a while but got super hot and liked the cold towels on her forehead, which the attendant happily brought over!

After about 20 minutes, we showered off and then got into a warm mineral bath with all-you-can-drink cold cucumber water.

Ming-Wai loves (and is a little obsessed with) mineral baths and hot springs, so this was right up her alley. Ming-Cee thought it was nice for a while but then got super hot again and utilized all the cold towels on her head and neck - sometimes pouring the cold cucumber water on the towels to keep them cool :)

After about 15 minutes in the mineral bath, we put on our robes and got into an infrared sauna with our cucumber water for another 15 minutes. Then they invited us to lie down in separate rooms with cushy massage tables, and we relaxed for 15 minutes with cold cucumbers on our eyes.

Here’s a photo of the fantastic Buddha Pond, which is a geyser-filled pond with lounge chairs and palm trees! We hung out here chatting on a lounger for quite a while after the mud bath and it was lovely. Definitely don’t skip the Buddha Pond if you go to Indian Springs!

The mud bath experience was not what we expected, but it was a great detox and probably what we needed after the holidays.

So, have you done a mud bath? Did you like it? Let us know in the comments below or reply to our weekly newsletter. We’re open to trying other places!
