Overwhelmed. Exhausted. Burned out. Just plain fed up and over it.
As 2020 chugs along, we are putting out fire after fire (literally and figuratively). When is life going to stop dishing it out? We are going through such hardship right now and invite you to join us in screaming ”it’s just too damn much!”
We continue to think that it can’t get worse...but then it does. We continue to work and live in the same space with the same people day after day. We used to have space to unwind, take a pause, hear ourselves think… but now it’s almost impossible to check out and take a minute. That soul-sucking commute that we used to hate? Yeah, kinda missing that “me time” now.
Then again, we are more isolated than ever. We don’t have our networks to ask for help or to vent. Or maybe the isolation stems from living by ourselves and we’re missing human contact. We are all struggling and suffering in our own worlds. And many of us don’t want to be an added burden to others so we put our heads down and push until we can’t push any longer.
AND we haven’t even gotten started with the civil unrest and the state of our plant. OR the judgment that comes from others when we finally make a tough call like deciding to take a family vacation or to send our kids back to school or daycare.
The pandemic and the natural disasters have hindered us from soaking up the soothing and grounding energy from our favorite nature spots. We don’t have time or space to meditate and reflect. We are now playing more significant roles with less support than ever before. The tools and routines that used to center us and help us deal with all the stresses, they have been stripped away.
So how are we supposed to handle all of this? There is no simple answer.
When we write these newsletters or post on social media, we understand that not everyone is in a place to receive the messages and understandably so! To slow down, to reflect, to be grateful, to be mindful, or just to take a deep breath is all work!
That’s right. It’s more work. And it’s hard work. And many of us don’t have any more time or energy to give.
We never really know when someone is at the right moment to hear our words, to feel the deep desire to change, to take that terrifying first step, or get back on the wagon AGAIN. So we are going to keep posting and keep reminding you (and ourselves) that there are better ways to cope. No matter where you get your support or when you receive it, know that you are not alone. We are with you and agree that this is all just too damn much sometimes (okay, most of the time).
And with that, let’s end on a lighter topic… next week, we celebrate 40 years around the sun for co-founder Ming-Wai’s birthday (Oct. 9!!) COVID-style! During the week of October 5-9, all classes will be FREE karma classes! Plus, we'll be highlighting all that is wonderful and fantastic about this crazy talented, smart, and compassionate human.
So hang in there… it’s almost next week… or is it? It’s just all too damn much to know what day it is anymore.
